Seventeen Maryland students received honors at the 2013 National History Day contest. Also recognized were two outstanding Maryland teachers. The list of those receiving honors is attached below and will also be posted on the Maryland Humanities Council website along with photos.
Taylor Branch will provide the afternoon address at the 2013 MDCSS Conference to be held in Annapolis Maryland on October 18th. Mr. Branch is the bestselling author of Parting the Waters: America in the King Years, 1954-63; Pillar of Fire: America in the King Years, 1963-65; At Canaan’s Edge: America in the King Years, 1965-1968; and The Clinton Tapes. He has won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Renowned author and professor of History, Alan Taylor, will be coming to Harford County and the University of Baltimore to discuss his recent book, The Civil War of 1812: American Citizens, British Subjects, Irish Rebels, & Indian Allies, on April 8 and April 9, 2013. Read more
MDCSS congratulates Mark Howell of Westlake High School in Charles County, Maryland for being named Gilder Lehrman’s Maryland Social Studies Teacher of the Year.
