This summer, Street Law, Inc. will conduct its first Civics & Civil Rights Institute in Washington, DC, from July 10–12, 2013. This professional development institute provides educators with a valuable opportunity to expand their knowledge and learn new methods for teaching about civil rights.
Teaching about human trafficking, voting rights, same-sex marriage, and immigration are just a few of the important issues that will be covered. Participants will learn and participate in effective, student-centered strategies for teaching about civil rights—including using historical documents to teach about civil rights and teaching about civil rights through hip hop music. Other highlights include an exclusive tour of the National Archives and a civil rights tour of Washington.
Sessions will be led by high-caliber instructors and civil rights leaders, and participants will leave the Institute with several civil rights lessons, activities, and resources from Street Law, Inc. and the National Archives.
