Teaching Financial Literacy Standards in Maryland Classrooms

A 1-MSDE Credit Institute for Grades K-5 Teachers

Two Face-to-Face Class Sessions

You select the group that best fits your schedule.

(Group A July 31 8:30-Noon; August 6: 8:00-4:30)

(Group B July 31 1:00-4:30; August 7: 8:00-4:30))

An Online Session

(Approximately 7 hours; July 31st – August 5th window for completion)

 Participants will receive:

*1 or 2 MSDE CPDs (You decide whether you want to do extra work for the extra credit.)

*Baltimore City Teachers: 1 AU

*Teaching Materials

Cost: Free

Please note:

  • Registration is on a first-come first served basis. Registration DUE by April 22nd
  • Children may not accompany participants to class.  Please make separate child-care provisions.
  • Teachers who have taken this Institute previously for 1 or 2 credits are not eligible for this Institute.

Clinton’s Ditch: The Erie Canal in Western New York

This National Endowment for the Humanities workshop will be held at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, New York.  Eighty k-12 educators will spend one week studying the social, cultural, political, and economic impact of the Erie Canal in an academically intensive environment led by university scholars. Tours of several historic sites will supplement classroom learning. For more information and application information: eriecanalwny.org/.

Smithsonian’s Teach-It-Forward Institute

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History invites Elementary Educators
in Maryland to apply for its cost-free Teach-it-Forward Institute that
will take place over the course of two days in early August and one day
in January. Participants will go behind-the-scenes, working
closely with museum educators, curators, archivists, and theater staff
to develop content knowledge, explore resources, and learn hands-on and
multidisciplinary skill building activities that are immediately
applicable to standards-based teaching. Elementary institute dates are: 8/5/13, 8/6/13 and 1/11/14.  Secondary institute dates are: 8/8/13, 8/9/13, and 1/25/14.
